About this movie

Academy Award winner Olivia de Havilland stars with Rossano Brazzi, Yvette Mimieux and George Hamilton in this beautiful and deeply moving romantic drama of a woman struggling to decide how to give her daughter a happy and fulfilling life -- The Light in the Piazza. When American Margaret Johnson (de Havilland--Gone with the Wind) travels to Italy with her charming, beautiful daughter, Clara (Mimieux), Clara meets a young Italian, Fabrizio (Hamilton), who falls deeply in love with Clara, and Clara seems to be equally in love with Fabrizio. But the young Fabrizio has only a limited ability to speak English, and Margaret cannot tell if the young man is aware that the woman he loves is profoundly mentally handicapped due to a childhood injury. Now, should Margaret tell Fabrizio and Fabrizio's father (Brazzi) about Clara's condition?

Saw this on TBS, back in the 1970's as a little girl. Without a doubt I still find this the most endearing, charismatic, charming, interesting romantic movie I've seen, ever.
