Hold The Sunset

It's the last Christmas that Edith will have with her family before she and Phil set off for their dream retirement in the Mediterranean.

With their sunset retirement together waiting on the sale of his house, Phil despairs of finding the right estate agent, and gives in to the idea that he should hold an Open Day to sell his house. Queenie has ulterior motives and persuades Roger that some interesting entertainment at the Open Day would not go amiss. Meanwhile Sandra is becoming impatient with Wendy's need for company, and steers her toward the Community Centre to find something to keep her busy.

After a disastrous Open Day, Phil's house is withdrawn from the market. Noticing his absence from their morning meeting, Edith reports Phil as missing to a sceptical police officer. Goth daughter Georgie arrives from Glasgow to see how Bob is and Roger takes a shine to her, offering her his room to stay in.

Roger decides to help Phil with his house sale by checking the roof for dry rot. Edith is finding it increasingly difficult to cope with her annoying sister Joan.

Roger continues to busk by the riverside with Bob, but is mortified when he spots a familiar face. Edith and Phil discover a local bookshop hosting local author Wendy Stevens with a booksigning of her first novel, although Wendy is alarmed to see them and tries to steer them away from reading the book. Meanwhile, Joan is driving Edith mad, and when Roger begs his mother to let him have another go with Social Services she agrees.

Edith is thrilled at Phil's announcement about the house. Wendy's book is fast becoming a best seller, which is affecting all the family. Roger and Bob have now been joined in their busking by Bob's daughter Georgie, and they start to draw larger crowds. Edith rejoices with Sandra about her happy news, and Roger's puppet Methuselah voices to Georgie his growing affection for her.

Georgie has started making a video about Roger and his fixation on his puppet Methuselah but decides it's not quite working, so the smitten Roger suggests she make a video of Phil and Edith's wedding instead. Phil entertains Edith with the arguments Wendy and Sandra are having about the wedding cake, and Queenie brings some copies of 'The Lemming Family' for them both to autograph before they go. Roger amuses Edith and Phil by introducing his new penguin puppet.
