Directed by Juleen Compton • 1966 • United States
Starring Sharon Henesy, Robert Gentry, Marco St. John
The second of two singular independent films directed by Juleen Compton in the 1960s finds her forging a new cinematic language to explore the then uncommon theme of female agency. THE PLASTIC DOME OF NORMA JEAN is the story of a clairvoyant teenage girl, Norma Jean (Sharon Henesy), who struggles between the responsibility of seeing the future and the attentions of a rock ’n’ roll band intent on exploiting her powers for profit. Centered around an enigmatic dome structure delivered to the magical pastoral Ozark countryside, the film sets up a battle of wills, both spiritual and material.
