I watched this as a kid and enjoyed it so I rewatched it when I saw it on here and it doesn’t hold up. The movie doesn’t know what tone it’s going for, the pacing is slow and boring and the CGI is very dated. The redeeming quality of this film is the action sequences which are very well choreographed and performed especially by Mark Dacascos.

Spoilers, so back when I was in junior high I had a friend who would always go on and on about this movie. When I saw it here I'm like im finally going to see what it is all about, it was ok and not exactly what I expected. I loved the second half of the movie way more than the first which was giving dull period piece atmosphere, has a interesting backstory to rely on with the beast . I will say the real dogs were more convincing than the cgi beast but he was cool too, at times I was engaged other times a little bored. Make sure you are in right mood to read subtitles and watch a two n a half hour movie, it has some good things going for it and I enjoyed most of it but I could never sit through it again but it was worth finally checking out ..
