Sigh. I love me some folk horror, as well as witches and feminist horror…but this is the kind of 80s cheese I’ve always hated. Poor Donald Pleasance. He is the only one who can act worth a damn in this silly film. He deserved better. BUT…if you feel like shifting your head into neutral, this is definitely the movie for not thinking. Not unforgivably terrible…but Donald Pleasance and some unintentional laughs are the only really good thing about this movie.

I watched the history of folk horror doc and this was featured on that film, so I figured I had to watch it. It was way better than I expected it to be and it made me love Donald Plesance even more. It makes you think about how women are viewed in insolated communities, and how being "other" in any sense of the word is, at best, a socially acceptable reason to be treated as lesser, and at worst, life threatening, regardless of whether it's 1692 or 1982. It felt like more of an 80's flick where like you're not supposed to dance in this town rather than a period piece.
