About this movie

Following the mind-bending HEAVEN KNOWS WHAT, celebrated filmmakers Josh and Ben Safdie return to the mean streets of New York City with GOOD TIME, a hypnotic crime thriller that explores with bracing immediacy the tragic sway of family and fate. After a botched bank robbery lands his younger brother in prison, Constantine Nikas (Robert Pattinson) embarks on a twisted odyssey through the city's underworld in an increasingly desperate—and dangerous—attempt to get his brother out of jail. Over the course of one adrenalized night, Constantine finds himself on a mad descent into violence and mayhem as he races against the clock to save his brother and himself, knowing their lives hang in the balance. Anchored by a career-defining performance from Robert Pattinson, GOOD TIME is a psychotic symphony of propulsive intensity crafted by two of the most exciting young directors working today. Josh and Ben Safdie’s transcendent vision is an intoxicating portrait of desperation and destruction that will not be soon forgotten.

Good Time I'm not the biggest fan of but with it's retro vibe and intense tone I give it maybe a 3 and a half out of 4 but I feel it should be 4 out of 5 in ways. The performances are knockouts and the realism of this film is wild. There is a little too much bad launguage and there's other things that are bad, and while it's a suprise at times film, and partly a Good Time to me, I can't totally recommend.

I saw this because it's under A24 and was getting rave reviews from review outlets that I generally respect. This movie did not live up to those expectations. Its a good movie, I can recognize its merits, but it's not a great movie. Glad I saw this during a 99 cent rental promo.

Good Time is the movie of the year. Robert Pattinson gives the performance of a lifetime, Ben Safdie is my pick for best supporting actor and Jennifer Jason Leigh steals the spotlight every second she is on screen. This movie is a visceral experience. I'm going to come out and say most people will probably be meh to straight out hating this movie. On a technical level Good Time is my favorite of the year.. It is insanely stylistic and dark. The score for this movie is Unreal and the best of the year so far. The cinematography is a perfect 10/10 and the use of color might be my favorite technical aspect. While it's a dark story visually the world Ben and Josh Safdie create is one you can not take your eyes off of. This movie starts at 100 miles an hour and never slows down. It is basically Mad Max Fury Road pacing. Good Time's strengths is in its characters. Even though they are terrible people we can't help but wonder as we are watching, how are they going to get out of this new obstacle. They are interesting to watch.
