About this movie

Two American filmmakers travel to the edge of war, to live with 85,000 Syrian refugees in the Za’atari camp. For the first time, experience an intimate look at the heartbreak and hope on the frontlines of the world’s most dire refugee crisis. From meeting Ghoussoon, a former nurse who started a business to provide for her three children, to the street smart, 10-year-old Raouf, whose trauma hides just beneath his ever present smile, Zach and Chris uncover inspiring stories of individuals rallying, against all odds, to rebuild their lives and those of their neighbors.

The Syrian refugee crises has been a hot topic of the media for a while. Bomb blasts and images of destruction litter screens around the world. But "Salam Neighbor" does not just view the Syrian crises...it lives it. It captures the daily struggles and the blanketed hope that these people need to stay alive and spirited in the face of destruction and death. It really makes you reflect life here in the US. It will change your perspective on the crises and on how you view your own life. It's a journey in itself, watch it for them. Refugees deserve having the world be aware of them at the very least. Incredible.

Chris and Zach came to my High School and showed Salam Neighbor and I am inspired to go out and make a change in my community. I had first seen Living on One 2 years ago and loved their movie. I loved that they came and showed Salam Neighbor because we have a refugee program at school and now so many students are involved in helping in any way possible. I want to more people to see this and have been telling all my friends about it!

I directed the film, so am totally biased, but I cannot encourage you more to watch and get to meet some of the refugees in this camp. The experience fundamentally shifted my views on welcoming refugees and provided an important perspective to understanding this crisis. Thanks for your time! :)
