About this movie

Chasing Amy is the third installment in the "New Jersey Trilogy" from award-winning writer-director Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats, Dogma). Cult comic-book artist Holden (Ben Affleck) falls in love with fellow artist Alyssa (Joey Lauren Adams), only to be thwarted by her sexuality, the disdain of his best friend Banky (Jason Lee), and his own misgivings about himself. Filled with Smith's unique ear for dialogue and insight into relationships, Chasing Amy offers a thoughtful, funny look at how perceptions alter lives, and how obsession and self-doubt skew reality.

While not silly like Jay and Bob Strike Back, Chasing Amy is a pretty good movie. The basic plot is about Holden's strugle, both internal and with his friend and co-work Banky that is caused by his friendship and eventual relationship with Alyssa. As he learns more about his new love interest, the more he chases after her. But when he finally wins her affection, that knowledge and his bad handling of the situation leads to not only the loss of Alyssa but the loss of his friendship with Banky. Set in the world of comic book production, there are some great supporting roles in this movie as well as great fake shooting scene at the beginning.

Most kevin smith films arent hysterical, they're always excellently written. But this movie is a waste of time. I wouldnt sit through it to get laid, ill spend the night alone.

🙄 *sigh... so when I originally saw this film as a teenager in 1997, this felt like an adult story dealing with taboo subject matter. Looking at it now in 2020, I can't, in any way, believe in Alyssa and Holden's relationship. The guy has problems with her current lifestyle but she sees him as a friend and wants to hang out anyhow? He's willing to destroy their friendship for a pretty selfish reason and she decides he's the one? BTW OMG with Holden's solution in the end... 😳 WTH DUDE!!! LMAO
