About this movie

Jessica Lange and Halle Berry give performances of uncommon poignancy and depth. Lange plays an adoptive mother who gives an abandoned child a new chance at life. Berry, in a remarkable portrayal heralded as her dramatic breakthrough, is the birth mother who cleans up her life and sets out to reclaim the child. Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) portrays her firebrand attorney.

Words can't begin to explain how much this movie means to me. This movie is literally my life's story growing up and it brings me to tears every time I watch it. There's an emptiness that I feel inside of me, to this day, because I was adopted and constantly removed from white families of foster care. I don't understand why some people dislike this movie, as I am sure it has a lot to do with the subtle racial tensions involved. This movie will always have a place in my heart and I loved it because it tells my story.

Every time I watch this. Not from happiness either. Isaiah's mom got her child back, but what about his other mommy? Isaiah's birth mom should've thought about losing him before she screwed it all up. Then not only did she screw up her sons life again, she also screwed up another family's. Makes me so sad & angry, that this could happen.
