Definitely a good war movie but not as INCREDIBLY AMAZING as some of these reviews lead to believe... Some of the writing is pretty stale, characters aren't fully fleshed out so you don't really care who lives or dies and it just doesn't have that massive war feel... It's good, don't get me wrong. But by no means is it on a level with Saving Private Ryan or Black Hawk Down.

Apparently it's not well known here that the author of the book this film is based on (and a consultant to the movie) is Jake Tapper from CNN. Harrowing, gritty, and vividly real, Tapper nailed the depiction of life and strife for these brave men and it translated great to the screen. I took a star off because Eastwood's acting, while adequate and understated by design, seemed like a weak point compared to the rest of the cast. Still, he's a young actor and will get better and was fine here.

Just OK. Very simple movie. Mid-tier acting. Not much of a story. First half of the movie is an odd build-up to a battle with several storylines that have nothing to do with the battle. The second half is the battle. Plenty of action.
