About this movie

Its name: EVENT HORIZON. The high-tech, pioneering research spacecraft mysteriously vanished, without a trace, on its maiden voyage seven years earlier. But a weak, persistent signal form the long-missing craft prompts a rescue team, headed by the intrepid Captain Miller (Laurence Fishburne, THE MATRIX and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III), to wing its way through the galaxy on a bold rescue mission. Accompanying Miller is his elite crew and the lost shipメs designer (Sam Neill, JURASSIC PARK), their mission is to find and salvage the state-of-the-art interstellar horror. Back to electrify-and terrify-is EVENT HORIZON, now as a two-disc Special Collection DVD that contains never-before-seen special features, including a five-part documentary on the making of this unforgettable motion picture. Kathleen Quinlan (APOLLO 13) and Joely Richardson (TVメs NIP/TUCK) also star in this gripping sci-fi thriller.

In a few words, this movie was impressively unimaginative. If you enjoy body horror simply for the sake of body horror, then it might be up your alley, just don't expect any deeper themes or any sort of satisfying resolution or explanations, despite the many hooks and hints. Many high-rating reviewers make comments that this movie was scary to them as kids, but that nostalgia is probably its most attractive feature. As an adult watching it for the first time, I found the only "frightening" thing the jump scares (of which there were many), and I felt that almost all of the plot points in the movie could be seen coming from miles away. To me, a good horror movie allows you to suspend your disbelief, but this movie made that incredibly difficult, due to the completely B.S. science, the hints at character backstories that really don't actually form any sort of believable motivation, tropes that feel very off-genre and cliche, and the ending that just felt completely pointless. For a 90's movie, many of the special effects were entertaining and good for the time, but that really is probably this movie's only redeeming quality. Don't waste your time, there are better movies out there.

This made it right up there with "The Descent" for me. It felt like having an actual nightmare and waking up sticky, terrified and with a racing heart. The cast was brilliant too; Sam Neill, Laurence Fishburne and Jason Isaacs are most notable. It sad that the original was lost because I would LOVE to see what this could have been. This is not for you if you want Star Trek or Aliens. This movie is more like Lovecraftian horror in space, so to Sci-fi/action fans, this is not for you.

This is a Sci-Fi, terror, Horror trifecta playing on our greatest fears. Can't IMAGINE what the few people that gave this less than 4 stars were expecting. I watch A LOT of horror and Sci-Fi and this was one movie that stayed with me. I was thinking about it the next day......because the science makes sense if you stretch your imagination and there are a few scenes....one in particular that is OFF THE HOOK scary. No spoilers here but BELIEVE ME......you'll know it when you see it. One of the handful of movies I can watch a couple times a year and never get sick of. Waiting for the directors cut which I heard was AWESOME!! Much of the intense footage was cut for the sake of the "R" Rating. FIVE SOLID STARS for Sci -Fi AND Horror lovers. Top 10 UNDER-RATED MOVIES EVER!!
