About this movie

In this uncensored and unrated Director's Cut of the cult classic, a group of ninth-grade students from a Japanese high school have been forced by legislation to compete in a Battle Royale. The students are each given a bag with a randomly selected weapon and a few rations of food and water and sent off with three days to kill each other until one survives - or they all die. The story focuses on a few of the students and how they cope. Some, like the psychotic Kiriyama or the hyper-sexual Mistuko, decide to play the game. Others, like Shuya, Noriko, and Kawada, try to find a ways to get off the island without violence. But as the violence increases and the numbers fall, can Shuya and his classmates survive?

WARNING!!! This is the English Dubbed version of the film! I love this movie, but not enough to watch it dubbed in English! Am I alone in thinking if "Director's Cut" is used to describe a product for sale, and that director was Japanese, that the original Japanese audio should be part of the purchase? Movie itself gets 5/5 starts, reduced 2 stars on Google for tricking me into buying a dubbed title (I should not have to click "Read More" at the bottom to find out the original audio is missing)!

It's quite rushed, deaths are cringy in a poor-acting way, and minimal character development. Granted, it's a two hour movie trying to cover a 600 page book with many points of view, but some parts are just painful. If so much has to get cut for time, I don't get why things get altered when they are included. Even by 2000s standards, the overall movie is fairly cringe. I've seen worse, but I'm not sure why this is a cult classic.

BEWARE IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN WATCHING THIS VERSION!! This Version is dubbed and dubbed terribly go find a version with Japanese audio and subtitles. The content of the the movie was great probably like an 8 out of 10 but its impossible to really enjoy this dubbed version. You can see these great performances from the actor but are forced to hear the awful and sometimes laughable dubbed voice acting that completely took away from the film. So to summarize the movie is really good but don't, I repeat do not watch the dubbed version. EDIT: After wrote this review i found out the version on iTunes and Amazon Prime Video offer Japanese Subbed so if you wanted somewhere to watch do it there.
