About this movie

Based on the classic ghost story, The Woman in Black tells the tale of Arthur Kipps, a lawyer who is forced to leave his young son and travel to a remote village to attend to the affairs of the recently deceased owner of Eel Marsh House. Working alone in the old mansion, Kipps begins to uncover the town's tragic and tortured secrets and his fears escalate when he discovers that local children have been disappearing under mysterious circumstances. When those closest to him become threatened by the vengeful woman in black, Kipps must find a way to break the cycle of terror. - Squid Distribution LLC, The British Film Institute. Poor is not strong enough to describe this film. Having seen the stage version and read the book by Susan Hill I was expecting a chilling gothic film which made me jump and shiver, but it did none of that and barely kept my interest. It barely sticks to the storyline and has large sections missing and even adds others in for no apparent reason. The changes to the story ruin it in my opinion. Also, Daniel Radcliffe was out of his depth, he showed very little emotion, even in the nursery for the first time which is supposed to be one of the more scary scenes.

Thoroughly disappointed. Not only is the plot poorly implemented (and overused in the first place), but the acting is AWFUL. Radcliffe is the worst culprit - he has the emotional reactivity of a pork pie! So wooden it's painful. The history of the house and characters is threadbare, in fact much of your understanding hinges on quickly reading a couple of letters that Radcliffe noses over. The scares are simply shocks, which is fine in principle, but they are too frequent and highly predictable. Poor effort.

It's made me jump once only. It's the typical black figure walks around behind the scenes in a big mansion with lots of creaks & sounds. That doesn't scare me tbh. Story is shockingly lame in view of so so sooo many food reviews this film has had. Daniel radcliffe got a good bargain, cs he has to wear the same 1 outfit throughout the same film. I have 30 mins to watch now. Will I jump... hmmm.
