I Am Ali

I grew up thru this time and could not understand the fear the government and the a lot of people had for this man. They tried everything to silence him but could not. Yes he was egotistical but what entertainer isnt. He was the greatest. In word deeds and actions. He paid the price for speaking the truth. Very few people will ever do that. He was the greatest fighter of all time. He was and will always be a great human being that believed in his god , himself and tried to raise people up to be someody the best they could be. We need more of him. God Blessed Muhammed Ali. I was asked a question the other day. If there was anyone in history you could meet who would it be. For me there are only 2. Winston Churchill and Muhammed Ali.

What I love about this documentary is that you get the story of Muhammad outside of the ring, his role as a father, a mentor, an opponent, as a leader and as the phenomenal destined figure he was sent to be. It's a glimpse at his internal spirit from various perspectives. I appreciate that each section was told from the perspective of certain people who lived that moment with him. Furthermore the idea of him as sort of a prophet embracing the power of word, and speaking things into existence, seemed to be the theme binding it throughout, including the usage of the audios he recorded of various conversations, and how he knew these recordings would someday be significant. As Ali said in one of the recordings, we don't understand the value or significance of the time while we are living it. But years later such things as documents and recordings will be invaluable as we seek to understand and learn from the experiences of the past. Muhammad Ali is an inspiration and a mentor for me and many others through his example and his words and his actions. More than just a person or a boxer; he was and is a consummate spirit that entered this life with a purpose and he filled it

I love how the director balances the boxing and the family, the personal and the public. There's footage I've never seen, and I've seen tons of docs on Ali. It's special to me. Do watch it.
