Dumbo

This is a review of both Google play and Dumbo. Google play: I will probably never rent another movie from Google play since even in full screen the play bar and some buttons stayed at the bottom and Dumbo and another bright white button were at the top durring the entire movie and I could not figure out a way to get them to clear the screen. also googles streaming is a bit lacking - the movie would constantly stop with the spiner for a second constantly throughout the show. Netflix never does and neither does xbox. Dumbo: I typically base how good a movie is by how I enjoy the movie. Though the editing, the special effects and the acting were very good the movie left me not impressed. I actually did not enjoy this show like I thought I would as Dumbo was a favorite of mine as a child. It seems like it was just too serious and too long. With the play bar permanently at the bottom of the screen I kept looking down to see how much time was left. I was actually hoping it was over but there was still 50+ minutes remaining. Bottom line - The show is put together very well however it is just no fun to watch. I gave it a 3 because it deserves a 5 on technical but a 1 on content.

The original Dumbo (1941) is cute, compelling, and emotional. My big issue with the original are the two common misconceptions about elephants; they are afraid of mice and they eat peanuts. According to the Mythbusters, elephants fearing mice is plausible. Elephants don't eat peanuts, because they are way too high in protein and they are smaller than wild vegetation. Elephants don't eat protein. Elephants are vegetarians that eat up 300 pounds of grass, leaves, and branches a day. I am not a fan of the circus at all; trained animals that were viciously abused for entertainment. I am rather curious about the new live-action remake of Dumbo, and Tim Burton directed this film. When you think of Tim Burton you usually think of creepy and eccentric. But here is a jumbo-sized surprise; Tim Burton has sidestepped his usual sensibility and make this remake just as cute, compelling, and emotional as the original. It shows that Tim knows exactly what the emotional feel of Dumbo is. He also made another choice that is just good: He also put a whole different spin on this kind of material to make it feel fresh and unique and it has a huge amount of deviation. The plot here is absolutely inspiring. I don't see anything sloppy or uneven here either, it is a story that is thought-out very well. The screenplay (Ehren Kruger) contains beautiful imagery that is so memorable and has lively movement, and the way Tim Burton structured this film with pitch-perfect timing and concepts makes this remake shine with dynamic execution. The comedy especially is very witty, usually involving the snakes or the very amusing karma. The craftsmanship is remarkable. The CGI special effects as well as the visual effects are astounding. The Asian elephants especially look so photorealistic and the behaviors of these creatures are quite accurate. Dumbo in particular is a fictional elephant that shows that elephants are one of the smartest and most emotional creatures of all. The elephant has a brain larger than all other land animals and have incredible memory spans that can last for years. As for feelings, they are capable of complex thought and deep feeling. These kind of behaviors are exactly shown in this movie. The emotionally dramatic and whimsical score is by Danny Elfman, and it is such an engaging score that compliments the entire movie, as well as delivering poignant effect. The characters here are also very strong. The charming protagonists use teamwork, smart wits, and heart that makes the movie so endearing. Thanks to the wonderful acting, the two Farrier siblings, Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finely Hobbins) are great young characters that give Dumbo confidence, courage, and great care. However, Nico Parker seems a bit monotonous and at times, but her performance as a whole is very passable, because she is portrayed as young girl who is serious, caring, and thoughtful. Colin Farrell is very good as Holt the father figure who can take on any challenge, even without one arm. Eva Green is lovely as Colette the flying acrobat. Danny DeVito is brilliant as Medici the ringmaster with energetic force to his character. He also has a very amusing monkey. The main antagonist is Vandemere (Michael Keaton); he is a wicked and corrupt businessman who will keep Dumbo for his own and make him a big star at his own state-of-the-art amusement utopia. He has a trusty, merciless sidekick named Neils Skellig (Joseph Gatt) who will separate Dumbo from his mother. Dumbo himself is an adorable little CG character with poignant charm. Not only he can fly and spray water, he also has some incredible smarts. So, who needs circuses when you have Dumbo; an enchanting remake that has an inspiring plot to tell with electrifying entertainment and strong emotions that make this feel real. Along with Nico Parker's monotonous moments, another problem that I had is that Dumbo was shown eating peanuts; not necessary, but hey! at least it's CGI, and on top of that, no animals were abused or harmed in the making of this remake. Highly Recommended!

3 to maybe near 3 and a half, because the new Dumbo isn't as bad as people claim. Tim Burton brings us into a beautiful world with aweness, Dumbo simply adding as he flys and does what he does. This film defiently delievers on fronts of the settings, and Dumbo flying, and other wonderous things. Micheal Keaton's villiany, well maybe it could be better. The kids. And other things presented in this remake.
