About this movie

From the creators of the Academy Award-nominated The Secret of Kells comes a breathtakingly gorgeous, hand-drawn masterpiece. Based on the Irish legend of the Selkies, Song of the Sea tells the story of the last seal-child, Saoirse, and her brother Ben, who go on an epic journey to save the world of magic and discover secrets of their past. Pursued by the owl witch, Macha, and a host of ancient and mythical creatures, Saoirse and Ben race against time to awaken Saoirse’s powers and keep the spirit world from disappearing forever. As enthralling for adults as for children young and old, Song of the Sea is a wonder of magical storytelling and visual splendor that is destined to become a classic. From the makers of one of the most groundbreaking animated films of the new millennium ('Secret of Kells') comes another gem from rising star studio, Cartoon Saloon. 'Song of The Sea' intertwines modern life with folklore when a lone lighthouse keeper weds a Selkie and fathers a daughter who is destined to help the Faerie in her own unique way. Everyone of every age should drink in this gorgeous film. I feel like it will become another timeless classic, surpassing even the towering achievement of 'Kells'.

Song of the Sea is a story for all ages with a unique art-style. It's available on Netflix (as of 4/1/20) and is worth your time. I highly recommend purchasing this movie to support the production of Tom Moore's work. As an adult, you may enjoy watching the movie the first (few) times. You'll appreciate the soothing soundtrack and relaxed atmosphere of the movie as you allow your kids to watch it again and again. Song of the Sea is based off of characters and story in Irish myth. The premise centers on a young boy and his sister in (relatively) modern day. They find themselves going on an adventure to uncover secrets about their mother and the Irish entities around them.

Song of the Sea is an animated movie created by the Cartoon Saloon. The premise is what is stated in the description, and I dare not say anymore. For those who are wondering whether it is worth it to pay for this movie, the simple answer would be yes. You, your children, your parents, your grandparents, even your dog should watch this movie. The beginning is grim and slow to pick-up, but from there it is all one great story whos end leaves quite an impression on the audience. (Seriously have fun)
