About this movie

Paul, who goes from the most infamous persecutor of Christians to Christ’s most influential apostle, spends his last days awaiting execution by Emperor Nero in Rome. Paul is under the watchful eye of Mauritius, Mamertine Prison’s ambitious prefect, who seeks to understand how this broken old man can pose such a threat. As Paul’s days grow shorter, he feverishly works from prison to further the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and embolden his followers to stand strong in their faith against Roman persecution far greater than has ever been seen.

This was a beautifully written narrative about one of the most dramatically changed lives in history. Paul went from lead persecutor to devoted preacher inside of a few days. It is a historical fact that skeptics are forced to explain with great difficulty if the truth isn't accepted. Yes, Jesus reached out to this man directly and invites us as to Him as well! Although we can sometimes read the story of scripture as a rather dry and formulaic history this put real feeling and dramatic impact into the story of the early Christians. You will feel the horror as Christians sneak around trying to avoid being apprehended. You will be revolted by the sight of Christians burning as torches .... scapegoats of Nero's evils. You will understand the pent up sense of rage and need for justice at the senseless cruelty and murder that are perpetrated against the innocent. The Apostle Paul's love and affection for the beloved physician, Luke, and the way it is reciprocated, are a moving and fitting portrayal. The payoff at the end as Paul meets his end will likely move you to a painful lump in the throat and tears of relief that his long journey was completed.

Well, I am not religious, so I would like to give my review. I was hoping for a good touching movie. But it seemed a little too brain washy for my liking. I've watched a lot of religious films and found them enjoyable. But this had really no climax until the end, which sometimes works for movies. However, the ending better be spectacular, and this one wasn't. Then they decide to dedicate the movie to people who've been persecuted by faith... So, some good things about the movie. I felt the acting was pretty good. I especially like the Roman, but they don't really go into what happens to him. They should have. I think that would have made for a better ending/movie. Additionally I really had to turn up the volume on this film because they were constantly whispering but lacked the proper audio team to do it right to where you can still hear them. Either way, 2.5 to 3 stars

When we see how much pain St Luke, St Paul, or the first Christians in general, suffered to write and keep the Good News, we should appreciate how precious are Paul Epistles, the book of Acts and the whole scriptures... We are so blessed, we have them between our hands without suffering.
