About this movie

Directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein's FREAKS portrays the story of 7-year-old Chloe (Lexy Kolker), who lives in both fear under her father's (Emile Hirsch) protective and paranoid control, and fascination of the outside world, where Abnormals create a constant threat - or so she believes. When a mysterious stranger (Bruce Dern) offers her a glimpse of what's really happening outside, Chloe soon finds that while the truth isn't so simple, the danger is very real.

It's your usual sci fi / horror tropes, but with an ingenious way of telling the story that makes for an engaging and fun movie experience.

This was unexpected. Freaks was a tight, interesting and beautifully cast movie. When there are massive blockbuster superhero movies with massive amounts of video game CGI, it's refreshing to find these gems. And with that said, this is not a slow-burn movie. The plot moves along quickly, and more importantly, I was pulled into the characters. There are some flaws -- not everything is explained -- but within a few minutes I'd stopped watching on my laptop to put it on my living room screen.

I'll try keeping this short, sweet & spoiler free. If hou have the capacity to appreciate low budget high minded science fiction, I highly recommend Freaks. I saw it without seeing any trailers & knew absolutely nothing about the plot going in. I was unsullied and loved every moment of it. If you liked Fast Color, Brightburn, Sleight & Chronicle you'll dig this dope bit of covid quarantainment. Parents it's definitely not for children although it stars one.
