About this movie

In this ferocious retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae based on the epic graphic novel by Sin City creator Frank Miller, King Xerxes of Persia (Rodrigo Santoro -- Lost) amasses an army of hundreds of thousands, drawn from Asia and Africa, to invade and conquer the tiny, divided nation of Greece in 481 B.C. But when the advancing Persian forces enter the treacherous mountain pass of Thermopylae, they encounter Spartan King Leonidas (Gerard Butler -- The Phantom of the Opera) and his royal guard of soldiers numbering just 300. According to legend, their valor and sacrifice inspired all of Greece to unite against the Persian foe, planting the seeds of democracy and ushering in the Golden Age of Greece.

"300" is a totally riveting masterpiece of movie making directed by Zack Snyder. The movie tells the story of King Leonidas and the 300 Spartans who defended their homes against the Persian army during the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC. The plot of the movie is simple, direct, and inspiring. A phenomenal action packed story that sticks pretty close to the actual events. The sound design is very excellent. The mix of live action and breath-taking CGI images creates beautiful landscapes, gorgeous backgrounds and amazing dimensions. Every scene is beautifully crafted. The acting was very good. The cast is very spectacular with their roles. Gerard Butler gives a very wonderful performance as King Leonidas. "300" is indeed an incredibly entertaining movie that tells a fascinating story. A masterpiece of visual effects, color, sounds, soundtrack and the absolutely stunning performance of the actors.

I hope viewers are not so dumb as to believe a historical film made with the aim of making a country look bad. Both in this movie and in other movies. (Google translate)

Honestly a masterpiece that a lot of people just misunderstand. It was never meant to be a literal retelling of the battle, it is framed as an embellished story being presented by one of the survivors. A story of glory, survivors guilt and a call to arm to avenge those who had died. The narrator throughout the movie is that survivor portraying a very biased (and stylized) version of the events. Incredible film that stands up easily today
