About this movie

Illumination, who brought moviegoers Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2, and the biggest animated hit of 2015, Minions, continues the story of Gru, Lucy, their adorable daughters--Margo, Edith and Agnes--and the Minions in Despicable Me 3. After he is fired from the Anti-Villain League for failing to take down Balthazar Bratt, the latest bad guy to threaten humanity, Gru finds himself in the midst of a major identity crisis. But when a mysterious stranger shows up to inform Gru that he has a long-lost twin brother--a brother who desperately wishes to follow in his twin's despicable footsteps--one former super-villain will rediscover just how good it feels to be bad.

I'm a bit conflicted about how I feel about this film. As a story, it's not as good as the previous films, but the soundtrack and how the film plays on those songs is pure audio/video movie candy. I'm not fond of Dru as a character or his story arch, but I love every second with Balthazar Bratt. I guess I really wish they just cut out the parts where Lucy's trying to connect with Gru's girls as a mother and whatever the Minions did (both feeling very tacked on) and just gave me more Bratt.

Out of the two installments, Despicable Me 3 was the most disappointing. It had a boring plot, the character scrips were poorly developed, had odd themes, bad "unicorn " scene, random minion scenes, unnecessary scenes, ect. The only good part in the entire movie was when the new 80s villain [forgot his name] was about to board a ship while snazzy music was playing.

I have been a HUGE fan of the Despicable Me series or movies. However, this movie fell drastically short with the villain of Benjamin Bratt. The moments with Gru, Lucy and the girls we're cute and charming as usual. Meeting Gru's brother was entertaining. But again, there was no comedy with Bratt. He far to cruel and the his jokes fell flat. At least in the prior movies, the villains were funny. I was extremely disappointed in this film.
