About this movie

There’s a right way to be single, a wrong way to be single, and then…there’s Alice. And Robin. Lucy. Meg. Tom. David. New York City is full of lonely hearts seeking the right match, be it a love connection, a hook-up, or something in the middle. And somewhere between the teasing texts and one-night stands, what these unmarrieds all have in common is the need to learn how to be single in a world filled with ever-evolving definitions of love. Sleeping around in the city that never sleeps was never so much fun.

I thought this would be a movie where all the funny stuff was in the trailer. But I when watched it with several girlfriends, we cracked up at all the awkwardness, boisterous behavior and sweet moments. It was refreshing to see the main character actually live up to the title of the movie and embrace standing on her own two feet, rather than having to end up with a guy to have a tidy little, predictable ending.

I don't understand the negativity. The thing is what makes a movie great or not has many reasons. No movie is truly for everyone. If you know it's a "chick flick" & you don't do chick flicks- don't watch them & then clog the drain with your negativity. Take a page from Shirley Maclaine's character in "Steel Magnolias". The whole spiel about movies "because they've got nothing but naked people in them" & she doesn't go see plays "because I can nap at home for free." Either moviegoers need to find what drives them to theatres in the first place other than vehicles or Movie Studios need to find what brings audiences to the theatre. Perhaps both. My take is I loved the bits and pieces of this film as an individual. There were some parts that just hit home & brought tears to my eyes. Other times, my belly was hurting from laughing too much & I couldn't breathe. (Seriously!!) Each character brought their mini back story to the finale of the film & that was a nice surprise. Because life is not all that for us. Being able to relate (hit home) & be reminded there's someone more important than this movie & my review of it... is one thing those Hollywood Screen Writer's get right... Maybe Hollywood will get better with connecting to the General Public. Maybe... I have Hope.

Ok so this movie was funny a little bit. I really like it because it had Damon Wayans Jr in it. But overall the storyline was easy to figure out. I really don't like that about movies. Anyway the ending seems to put things into perspective. I'd give it 5 stars, but it lacked a lot. Oh and I'm glad I saw it for free at home. I can take this off my to buy list.
