About this movie

What if, in the wake of more than a decade of devastating weather events, we finally found a way to control Mother Nature and the destruction her tirades entail? When catastrophic climate change endangers Earth’s very survival, world governments unite and create Project Dutch Boy: a global net of satellites surrounding the planet that are armed with geo-engineering technologies designed to stave off the natural disasters. After successfully protecting the planet for two years, something is starting to go wrong. Two estranged brothers (Gerard Butler, Jim Sturgess) are tasked with solving the program’s malfunction before a worldwide geostorm can engulf the planet.

I love disaster movies. Cheesy films like 2012 and The Day After Tomorrow are mindlessly fun because they are over the top and just awful in the best ways with hammy acting and completely unbelievable scenarios. I can't get enough. So when Geo Storm came out I was expecting another fine helping of disaster porn. But that's not what I got. If you just want to see the disaster parts of this film then go on to YouTube and search for compilation videos of the collected disaster moments. These videos are about five minutes long. The rest of the film is "look I'm a science guy who knows everything and who hates my brother oh my god do I hate that jerk oh wait I need him just kidding I like him now SELF SACRIFICE TIME IMI THE KING OF THE WORLD!" There. You've now seen the whole movie. You're welcome. Seriously, I like the cheesy disaster movies on SyFy that have a budget of five dollars. They're at least bad in a hilarious way. Geo Storm is bad in a "wow... and you guys really were trying pretty hard too. That's... unfortunate" way. It's bad. You'll feel dumber for having watched it. I even yelled at the TV just to drown out the "brothers'" (seriously, they look NOTHING alike) bickering.

If you know anything about weather OR space, this movie will insult your intelligence! It was painful to watch because every tiny moment I started getting lost in the story something ridiculous would happen. Then there is the acting, the entire cast except for Adepero Oduye were just terrible! Worst part...a space shuttle landing had JET ENGINE sound effects!!!! Space Shuttles are GLIDERS with rocket engines only used in take offs and while in space! I know its fiction but it is sad when fiction stories like this can't at least try to stick to the laws of physics taught before we finish high school otherwise sell it to us as a magic movie or other universe. If not then hire someone to keep the story at least barely believable, please!

I purchased this movie due to the high rating. I was very disappointed. There was no depth to the movie whatsoever. On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being Christopher Nolan's "Inception"), I would rate this a solid 2. Only because the graphics were good. The actors could have been better. It was all bland and generic. To add to the mundane experience, POTUS acted just like any other sci-fi POTUS. I don't know why that bothers me-but it does. Same copy and paste acting style across the board.
