About this movie

Meet the Park family, the picture of aspirational wealth. And the Kim family, rich in street smarts but not much else. Be it chance or fate, these two houses are brought together and the Kims sense a golden opportunity. Masterminded by college-aged Ki Woo, the Kim children expediently install themselves as tutor and art therapist to the Parks. Soon, a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. The Kims provide "indispensable" luxury services while the Parks obliviously bankroll their entire household. When a parasitic interloper threatens the Kims' newfound comfort, a savage, underhanded battle for dominance breaks out, threatening to destroy the fragile ecosystem between the Kims and the Parks. By turns darkly hilarious and heartwrenching, Parasite showcases a modern master at the top of his game.

This was a pretty good film. I don't know why it was nominated for so many awards though, but I enjoyed it. The characters are really great- they have you rooting for them even though they make questionable decisions. There was a twist in the middle that I didn't see coming and it's what makes the film so complex. This would be an easy film to write a paper on for school, but it's also one you can enjoy just as a film. I'd recommend it.

I lived in Korea for a year, and while over there I watched quite a few DVDs with english captions. I am used to their style of intense dramas/thrillers, and this one was one of the most intense movies I've ever seen. Excellent pacing, excellent acting, excellent writing and great directing. Definitely the best Korean movie I've ever seen, and without a doubt I see why it won best picture. They keep you engaged throughout. Definitely a must watch for thriller/drama lovers. The Koreans also know how to put just a touch of humor to make the movie balanced enough for the viewer.

If you've seen a lot of movies in different languages you will appreciate this movie. Wasn't predictable, caught my attention, plot twist. It'd be awesome if I could understand Korean vs reading English subtitles (thanks to those who took the time to translate) this movie wouldn't have won as many awards if it was dubbed.
