About this movie

Following the closure of a gypsum mine in the rural Nevada town she calls home, Fern (Frances McDormand) packs her van and sets off on the road. Exploring life outside conventional society as a modern-day nomad, Fern soon discovers a resilience and resourcefulness that present her with experiences unlike any she's known before. Along the way in this story of hope, she meets other nomads who become mentors in her life amidst the vast, sometimes breathtaking landscape of the American West. From Searchlight Pictures and acclaimed director Chloé Zhao, NOMADLAND features real-life nomads Linda May, Swankie and Bob Wells. With care and insight, Zhao crafted the screenplay, based on Jessica Bruder's book "Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century." McDormand brings Fern to life with a powerful, authentic performance. Also starring David Strathairn in a gripping turn as a man Fern befriends, NOMADLAND is a fascinating celebration of humanity, independence and adventure.

If you want some communist propaganda - this is the movie for you. These rich adult pretenders know what is best for you - and this rich lady is going to pretend to live in a van to show you "real life" My Dad was homeless for 20 years. He was there because he chose booze instead of getting his life together. He eventually chose life and became a trucker and a success. This hopeless movie is just trash.

For six years I lived in my van after the death of my companion of 33 years. I chose to. I found a way to live free until some nosy persons at my work interceded in my affairs. I endured some of the problems that she and others encountered in this movie. If you are going through homelessness, you need to keep your chin up and believe in yourself, Be like Thomas the Tank, I think I can I think can. I will be damned I will. There is nothing wrong with living out of your van or car. You get to keep more of your money, rather than giving it to a crooked slum landlord. Good performance. I watched it last night in one sitting. I can re-watch it anytime I like because I purchased it.

I am a nomad. This movie is rife with fallacy and propaganda from the outset. My life looks nothing like that depicted. I have a remote career. I pick up litter those filmed leave behind. Do all nomads litter? No. Is litter all that matters? No, but omission that it is the owners of run-down vehicles that are responsible for most of the crime, trash and drug paraphernalia found on BLM and NFS land is a wonderful little microcosm of the problems with Nomadland. 2 star b/c America is beautiful.
