About this movie

For Austin's hottest DJ, Jungle Julia (Sydney Tamiia Poitier), dusk offers an opportunity to unwind with two of her closest friends, Shanna and Arlene (Jordan Ladd and Vanessa Ferlito). This three fox posse sets out into the night, turning heads from Guero's to the Texas Chili Parlor. Not all of the attention is innocent: Covertly tracking their moves is Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russell), a scarred, weathered rebel who leers from behind the wheel of his muscle car. As the girls settle into their beers, Mike's weapon, a white-hot juggernaut, revs just feet away.

I liked this one alot and felt it really didn't get the respect it deserved. Yes it had bad acting.. But that was the point. In some ways it was actually stronger than Planet Terror's shlock but it was still the weaker of the two. But it was very funny and very complete on its own. Plus it had the best ever use of Heart's Barracuda to date in a film. Lol..the music in this one is also better than Planet Terror . As is the sexiness factor... Recommended grind house.

Initially, I was not a fan of Death Proof. I hadn't seen it in theaters. Just wasn't interested. I saw it on video and felt it was too long and disjointed. That was 2008. I watched it again today (2014) and I'm kinda blown away. It's still disjointed. As a narrative, it barely gets by. It doesn't go by traditional standards at all and, unfortunately, that's what it suffers from the most. This this two hour movie spends about an hour telling one story and then an hour telling another story. The two are only connected by the killer and his favored targets (young attractive women). The problem with this is -- spolier -- that the half the main characters are killed in the first hour and the other half are introduced in the second hour -- spoiler end. Negative comments aside, there are some really cool scene, a lot of good acting, and pretty good dialogue even if it is misguided. I gave it three stars initially but I think it deserves four. It would have five if the story was better crafted.

This movie should not have been coupled with Planet Terror. Planet Terror was over the top whereas Death Proof was a total drag. The change of pace was so stark, that I nearly left the theater.
