Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

The music and acting are both great. It's an adaptation of the musical, which is an adaptation of the various depictions of the Sweeney Todd character. The story is ok. It's about a barber who was sent to prison for nothing, while the judge who sentenced him tried to steal his wife. The barber returns under the name of Sweeney Todd, and restarts his barber business with the help of a baker named Mrs. Lovitt; all for the purpose of getting his revenge on the judge. The songs are expertly used, as they often include musical or lyrical bits that foreshadow events, or apply an extra layer to the mood of the scene. The dialogue is also well written and acted, often using its plain language to deliver more serious implications to a character. One of the most notable examples is a scene in which the judge sentences a child to be hanged for some non-descript crime. The judge's Beadle says that "If he wasn't guilty of that, he must've done something worth hanging," to which the judge responds, "What man hasn't?" The story makes it very clear that almost nobody is truly innocent in this story,Todd even gives the line, "We all deserve to die. Yes, you Mrs. Lovitt. Yes, I." The only thing keeping it from five stars for me, is that there is clearly a significant amount of time passing, yet there are very little consequences that are seen as a result of Todd's killings, especially considering how high the body count gets. Overall, I think it's very entertaining, well worth the watch.

this was, without a shadow of a doubt one of the grosses movies i have seen in a long time. if you love tragedies, and watching blood spray absolutely everywhere, you will love this movie. I do admit that I really enjoyed the fact that this movie was a musical, not only that, had it not been so gross, and i mean GROSS, i probably would have liked this odd movie. that being said, i was far too gory for me to stomach, truly i almost lost my dinner while watching parts of this movie , and so, i gave this a rather poor rating. Great acting, wonderful plot, i just could not stomach the blood.

Many people may dislike this movie due to the gruesome aspects of it. However the acting, story, singing, and suspense of the movie is absolutely fantastic. If you have a weak stomach and don't appreciate a good, dark musical then don't watch it. But overall, Sweeny Todd is my favorite musical of all time.
