About this movie

Set in contemporary Los Angeles, the film stars Golden Globe-nominee Beyonce Knowles of Destinys Child ("Dreamgirls," "Austin Powers: Goldmember") as the seductive Carmen, no longer an employee in a cigarette factory but instead an aspiring actress. A cop named Sgt. Derek Hill, who after being ordered by his corrupt superior office Frank Miller to arrest Carmen for her involvement in a bar fight, falls hopelessly and tragically in love with her. After leading Hill down the path to perdition, Carmen deserts him for a top-40 rap star named Blaze. Also starring Mekhi Phifer ("8 Mile," TVs "ER"), Golden Globe and Emmy Award-nominee Mos Def (TVs "Something the Lord Made," "The Italian Job"), Casey Lee ("White Chicks," "True Crime") and Joy Bryant ("Bobby," "Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins"). Features songs from the Bizet opera with modernized lyrics. MPAA Rating: PG-13 Copyright Ω 2001 New Line Productions, Inc.

Carmen: A Hip Hopera is the best urban musical film with the popular recording artists Beyoncé, Mos Def, Wyclef Jean, Bow Wow, Da Brat, and Jermaine Dupri on the film. It is based upon the original 1875 opera Carmen, the first being the 1943 Broadway musical Carmen Jones and it's 1954 Academy Award-nominated film adaptation. The film features mostly original hip-hop/R&B score in place of Georges Bizet's opera, I say this movie is the best one ever and a great inspiration.

I really rented it because Beyonce was in it. It was decent, but the acting could've been better and the story line is very plain
