Vampire Knight

The prestigious private school, Cross Academy, consists of two sessions, the Day Class and Night Class. Although the Night Class consists of students that are all beautiful, intelligent elites, they are in fact vampires! As members of the Disciplinary Committee, Yuki Cross and her childhood friend Zero Kiryu keep a close watch over the students of the Day Class, who are infatuated with the Night Class students, while acting as appointed Guardians for the Night Class to protect their true identity.

Tomorrow is the annual St. Xocolatl's Day, when it is customary for the girls at the academy to give chocolates to the boys. Although Yuki is busy patrolling the school grounds to catch the Day Class girls trying to sneak chocolates to the Night Class boys the day before the event, she finds time to make chocolates for Kaname as her token of appreciation. Meanwhile, the Headmaster catches Zero succumbing to a mysterious seizure, and it seems he may know the cause of Zero's suffering.

As a duty of the Disciplinary Committee, Yuki and Zero must conduct a surprise inspection of the students' belongings at both the Sun and the Moon Dormitories. Just as they are about to enter the Moon Dormitory, Zero suddenly leaves the school grounds. Yuki goes after him in a panic but can't find him. As she roams the streets by herself, Yuki is haunted by her memories from ten years ago, when suddenly a mysterious mother and child appear before her.

Seeing the state Yuki is in, Kaname takes her from Zero, who is left speechless when he realizes what he has done. Yuki cries in frustration, unaware of Zero's secret, even though they've known each other for a long time. Later, she overhears the conversation between the Headmaster and Kaname at the Headmaster's office. "In order to protect Zero..." After much consideration, Yuki heads to the Moon Dormitory to ask a certain favor of Kaname.

A new ethics teacher, Toga Yagari, arrives at Cross Academy. His looks, which are atypical for a teacher, are all the buzz among the Day Class students, and even Zero seems to have lost his usual composure. Upon hearing a question directed to Yagari from one of the students, Zero suddenly leaves the classroom. Yuki hurries after him to ask about his relationship with Yagari, but Zero refuses to answer. Then, the Headmaster appears to ask Yuki and Zero to run a few errands, but...

Zero tried to sink his fangs into Yuki, but he was able to get hold of himself just before he succumbed to his urge. However, there is someone who is trying to kill him: the new teacher Yagari. Yuki finds out that Yagari is actually a Vampire Hunter and Zero's master. The Headmaster intervenes, and Yuki is taken away from the wounded Zero. The following day, Yuki becomes suspicious when Zero does not come to class. She learns from Yagari where Zero is being restrained. Concerned about Zero, whose body is rejecting the Blood Tablets, Yuki makes an unexpected decision!

Yuki makes a secret decision regarding Zero, who is now determined to fight his affliction until the very end. Yuki feels guilty for betraying Kaname and keeping a secret from him. Zero accurately identifies her complicated emotions, and she runs off from the shooting range. While Yuki tries to sort out her feelings for Kaname, she is confronted by herself from ten years ago.

There is a rare commotion in the Moon Dormitory when the Night Class gets word that Takuma's grandfather will be visiting. Takuma's grandfather, nicknamed Ichio, is an important figure in the vampire world and is feared by many. When Ichio arrives at Cross Academy, he tries to suck the blood of Kaname, a pureblood, which is considered a taboo. An altercation is avoided, but it's just the beginning of more troubles to come.

Yuki and Zero are busy dealing with the Day Class students who are chasing after the Night Class students more fervently than ever due to the upcoming dance. In the midst of it all, the Headmaster asks Yuki to show the transfer student, Maria Kurenai, around the academy. Due to her weak constitution, Maria seems very harmless, but the Night Class is repeatedly affected by her actions, and even Zero is suddenly compelled to aim the Bloody Rose at Maria on sight!

To prepare for the upcoming exam, Zero tutors Yuki, but all the while, she notices something wrong with him. Meanwhile, at the Moon Dormitory, Kaname confronts Maria in his room. It seems as though Kaname and Maria know about each other. Yuki wonders why Zero is so concerned about Maria, and she sneaks into his temporary dorm to find out.

Maria's masked servant is none other than Zero's twin brother, Ichiru, whom Zero has not seen since their separation long ago. Having been plagued with a weak body growing up, Ichiru always admired Zero, but a complicated emotion tinged with jealousy has been festering deep inside his heart. Ichiru, who is Maria's loyal servant, discloses his feelings to Zero and then suddenly attacks him!

Yuki learns that Maria's true identity is Shizuka, the pureblood vampire who bit Zero and turned him into a vampire. With this information, Yuki accepts a deal from Shizuka and offers her blood in order to save Zero. Zero intervenes, but because he became a vampire by Shizuka, he is bound to her as her servant and is thus unable to attack his master. Yuki's pleas brings Zero back to his senses, and in a desperate attempt, he shoots his own leg with the Bloody Rose and turns the gun on Shizuka.

After suffering a mortal wound, Shizuka quietly dies in Ichiru's arms. Meanwhile, Yuki and Zero try to find where Shizuka may have gone, but Zero is constantly thwarted by his Level E seizures. Zero manages to locate Shizuka, only to be met by the sight of Ichiru drinking her blood as her body dissipates. All of a sudden, Zero is incapacitated by a violent seizure. Yuki arrives to find them gone, with only the signs of a struggle left behind.
