1 The Heist

We begin Murf's story with his daring "crime of the century" jewel heist at the American Museum of Natural History in 1964. As the heist unfolds, the episode simultaneously explores the past that led Murf to this defining moment. As a California boy, Murf grew up surfing, and when he moved to Miami Beach, he became the East Coast Surfing Champion. The surfer-turned-jewel-thief becomes a national celebrity, before the law eventually catches up to him. But this is only the beginning of Murf's story.
2 Another Level Of Madness

After serving 21 months in prison for his museum jewel heist, Murf the Surf emerges with a hardened attitude. His crimes turn more violent as he continues down his criminal path. He goes on a crime spree across the country, but when Murf gets involved in a stolen-securities scheme gone awry, he becomes the prime suspect after two women turn up murdered. As Murf proclaims his innocence, he's charged with murder, and faces death by the electric chair.

Facing two life sentences, Murf becomes a big-time drug dealer behind bars, and works every angle he can to escape prison, including Supreme Court appeals and attempted jailbreaks. But when Murf turns to religion, he finds a new calling...and possibly a new way out. Murf becomes a man of God and, after 16 years in prison, has an opportunity to be set free. But is Murf the reformed man he claims to be, or is this just another one of his cons?
4 The Truth Bends

After being told he'd never walk the streets again, Murf is released from prison after becoming a born-again Evangelist. Christians claim his story is of one of redemption. Critics say Murf is a con man, out for himself. As Murf embarks on a new journey as a man of God, he ministers at prisons across the world, working to reform inmates. But as Murf polishes his bad-boy-turned-good-guy image, facts emerge that open up new questions about Murf's past and who he claims to be.
