About this show

Set in the 1980s, Pose is a dance musical that explores the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in New York: the ball culture world, the rise of the luxury Trump-era universe, and the downtown social and literary scene.Mj Rodriguez plays "Blanca," who forms a "house," a self-selected family that provides support to LGBTQ youth rejected by their birth families. Ryan Jamaal Swain plays "Damon," a dancer who joins Blanca's house. Together they compete in the Balls-where house members challenge each other in various categories and are judged on their outfits, attitude, or dance skills-against Blanca's former house mother, "Elektra," played by Dominique Jackson. Billy Porter plays "Pray Tell," Godfather to the children who compete in the balls. Indya Moore plays "Angel," a streetwalker who develops feelings for a new client, "Stan," played by Evan Peters. Kate Mara plays his loving wife, "Patty." James Van Der Beek plays Stan's boss, "Matt."

It's good to view life from any and all angles. This show helped me to be more than just an outsider...looking, guessing, and wondering. It opened it's doors and invited me in and I'm very glad that I took the plunge to open my mind and feelings to some real understanding. Thank You for the invite.

It should come to no surprise to anyone here that Pose is the first of its kind: a network TV drama written, directed, and acted by queer folks of color. It took generations of community, creativity, and vision on the margins to get to Pose. It tells stories of love, ambition, and survival in an era that we've since whitewashed in the national consciousness. And today, in an environment where we need the wisdom and experiences of our elders to guide us maybe more than ever, it's crucial that we sit up & take note. Pose is an absolute work of art, telling timeless truths rooted in histories that we almost succeeded in burying. Best show around.

The characters are FULLY MATRICULATED. Especially the true hero of the show-Billy Porter. Love this series; somehow finding some dark macbre & deviant nods to Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck's American Horror Story series.
