Rules Of Engagement

Adam (Oliver Hudson) and Jennifer (Bianca Kajlich) are a 20-something couple who have gotten engaged and moving in together after just seven months of dating. Meanwhile, their neighbors Jeff (Patrick Warburton) and Audrey (Megyn Price) who have been married twelve years try to set a good example and shed some insight - and fear- about marriage. Offering yet another perspective is Adam's best friend Russell (David Spade) a life-long bachelor, who will never grow up and take life seriously. Mike Haukom and Tom Hertz wrote the episode directed by Andy Ackerman.

Audrey (Megyn Price) hosts a lavish party for Jeff's (Patrick Warburton) birthday against his will, but he goes along in order to get his "birthday deal," a secret gift Adam (Oliver Hudson) and Russell (David Spade) are eager to discover. They have their own ideas about what it could be, leading Adam and Jennifer (Bianca Kajlich) to set up deals of their own, which Adam begins to regret after Jeff plants unsavory seeds in his mind about what Jennifer might request.

After Adam (Oliver Hudson) has too many restless nights sleeping in Jennifer's (Bianca Kajlich) small bed, he brings home the bed he shared with his ex-girlfriend which causes a fight and leads them tossing out all memories of past relationships. Meanwhile, Audrey (Megyn Price) is surprisingly jealous after Jeff (Patrick Warburton) takes her up on a bet that can't get a woman's phone number even if takes off his wedding ring and coaching from Russell (David Spade).

Jennifer (Bianca Kajlich) tries to help Jeff's (Patrick Warburton) sore neck with a massage until the situation between them becomes uncomfortable and upsets Audrey (Megyn Price). Meanwhile, Russell (David Spade) brings Adam (Oliver Hudson) along to help him fight off a school yard bully so Russell can get close to the teacher.

Adam (Oliver Hudson) and Jennifer's (Bianca Kajlich) plans for a romantic weekend fall apart after they argue about their different feelings towards careers, finances and kids. Meanwhile, Audrey (Megyn Price) is having second thoughts about why she and Jeff (Patrick Warburton) have waited so long to have children and Russell (David Spade) has a close encounter with an older neighbor who helped him celebrate his 18th birthday. Jessica Walter guest-stars.

After Adam (Oliver Hudson) buys an expensive video-game console, Jennifer (Bianca Kajlich) makes him promise to discuss major purchases first, but Russell (David Spade) interferes and makes Adam question the agreement. Meanwhile, Audrey (Megyn Price) accuses Jeff (Patrick Warburton) of being more emotionally involved with sports teams than with her.

Adam (Oliver Hudson) is surprised when Jennifer (Bianca Kalish) confronts him about not yet setting a date all the while knowing he has a surprise of his own all planned. Meanwhile, after hearing about Jennifer's dilemma, Audrey (Megyn Price) surprises Jeff by making quilt out of his old t-shirts but regrets her gift when he doesn't stop telling the stories that are behind the shirts. Russell (David Spade) can't figure out his new date (guest star Maggie Lawson) when all of her conversations make sexual references and she won't sleep with him.
