About this movie

Combining poetry, traditional film narrative and a neo-noir aesthetic, “Guys Reading Poems” follows an avant garde painter (Patricia Velasquez, “The Mummy”) whose sanity dissipates when she’s abandoned by her handsome lothario husband (Alexander Dreymon, “The Last Kingdom”) for his stunningly beautiful mistress (Lydia Hearst, “South of Hell”). In a feature debut performance, eight-year old Luke Judy plays the resourceful child who creatively uses poetry to survive when his disturbed mother locks him in a puppet box, then transforms the child’s makeshift prison into an art installation.

This is an exceptional film that not only keeps you guessing, but takes you to a dark realm with a young boy’s entrapment and then offers you an astounding light in the form of aesthetic brilliance as guys read poetry in the boy’s imagination and comfort him until he reaches the realm of resilience. It is a thought-provoking, innovative, soulful story with stunning visuals that will stay with you long after its viewing. I highly recommend to anyone, but particularly to poetry lovers. The manner in which the delivery of poems weaves the narrative is not only original but compelling. The actors are terrific!
