The Accident

Polly Bevan is a devoted mother and loyal wife to local politician and leader of Glyngolau Council, Iwan. Disaster strikes their town when a construction site collapses, killing a group of children. Only Polly's daughter, Leona, survives. The town, including Polly's close friends Angela, Greta and Debbie, mourn the deaths of loved ones. Polly directs her anger at the Kallbridge Development's project's leader, slick executive Harriet Paulsen. But as the dust settles Polly's shocked to realise it might be Leona who gets the blame.

In the aftermath of the tragedy grief sets in and the investigation begins. Polly's best friend Angela, appalled that the kids are being scapegoated, unites the families to fight for justice. But unity falls apart when Harriet's assistant, and lover Tim, covers for Harriet by leaking emails showing that it was Debbie's husband Alan who was to blame. It falls to Polly, struggling to cope with Leona's condition and secretly harboring suspicions that Iwan is hiding something, to bring the town back together.

Three months later the Inquest into the accident arrives. Now guided by passionate solicitor, Phillip, the families discover the truth that Kallbridge used faulty steel on the site. But when Harriet slips through their grasp and the CPS decide not to pursue charges, it seems taking the case on themselves is their only hope. Polly is forced to choose between her family and justice as Angela asks that she betray Iwan to get the evidence they need. Meanwhile Harriet is forced to throw Tim to the wolves to save her own skin.

After a year the families' private prosecution finally arrives in court. Polly's friendships are pushed to their limits as Leona is torn apart on the stand. But when their case dramatically falls apart when their star witness, Tim, has a last minute change of heart, it falls to Polly, once again, to dig deep. Desperate to do right by her daughter Polly has to convince Iwan to come clean. His evidence, which sends Harriet to prison for colluding with him over the site inspection, also incriminates himself. With justice finally achieved, the families realise that there is still a long road ahead to come to terms with the tragedy. But there is still hope for Polly and Leona, whose bond is stronger than ever.
