It's a big novel to trim down for a movie, and not particularly linear. I wasn't keen on Ahab's portrayal, and there were huge swathes missing from the plot. Other characters had been reduced to one dimensional figures, and much of the humour of the book and most of Ahab's speeches had been lost. The script also suffered as a consequence of updating the language to a more modern prose.
