About this movie

As devout Jehovah's Witnesses, sisters Alex and Luisa and their mother, Ivanna, are united in The Truth. Alex looks up to her confident older sister, while striving to follow in Ivanna's footsteps as a ‘good Witness'. But when Luisa starts to question the advice of the Elders, she makes a life-altering transgression that threatens to expel her from the congregation. Unless Ivanna and Alex can persuade her to return, they must shun her completely. This challenge becomes more painful when their family is faced with another heartbreaking test of faith.
Written and directed by Daniel Kokotajlo, a former Jehovah’s Witness, Apostasy is a remarkable debut film, providing rare authenticity and insight into faith, family, duty and love.

Very happy the real "truth" is being shown to the world!! A must see for any fellow former JW. Please share this with the world! There were a 2 peices of doctrine I never heard of before as a former JW in the USA for which I was for 15 years of my youth. l will just have to do some research on this for myself. Also, the situation between an elder and the woman he is courting suprised me. Usually those relationships are 100% supervised. I'm not saying the movie got it wrong but it reminded me what I already know to be true which is regional and national difference in the doctrine and policies.

This movie is mainly about their practices of disfellowship. The movie depict fairly accurate chain of events but it is showing just a scratch of the surface what that they are capable of doing. And I think the ending is missing something.

For those giving a 1 star You clearly are one of jehovah's witnesses and as such, you have no business watching this movie. If you do, why not tell everyone in the congregation and see how that goes with the elders. Second, unless you have been shunned, then you can't speak on this. This movie speaks on both sides as it should. It's easy for someone to defend something for which they can't emphantize with.
