About this movie

A woman wonders if it's just friendship or real love she feels when a close male friend announces he's tying the knot in this romantic comedy. Dre (Taye Diggs) and Sidney (Sanaa Lathan) became best friends when they were ten years old -- the same time that both first became aware of the first rumblings of the Hip Hop revolution in New York City. Today, Dre runs a successful record label, and Sidney is a respected music journalist; both have managed to turn their love for the music into careers, and both are still close friends. Close enough, in fact, that many of their pals wonder why they've never become boyfriend and girlfriend. While both have always denied their attraction to one another, Sidney begins to have second thoughts when Dre proposes to his girlfriend Reese (Nicole Ari Parker), a lawyer. Even though Sidney has a relationship of her own with professional basketball player Kelby (Boris Kodjoe), as Dre's wedding draws closer, Sidney begins to suspect that her longtime best friend is actually the love of her life. Brown Sugar features supporting performances form real life Hip Hop stars Mos Def and Queen Latifah; former basketball star Earvin "Magic" Johnson served as executive producer.

Mos Def, most definite essentials easy on the ears for real hip hop, tap me on the shoulders. The world rolled off my mind like boulder, I now stand on. I am here for good. Respectable establishment of uplifting the unheard voices oft dismissed or misunderstood. Most definite and edgy, to question authority, relative any moral obligations to quality of life. Awesome movie. The brilliance wrapped in one note, a diamond in the dirt for the moment, no fussing, the friction is polishing the rock, story of a gem, I am certain. Why refer to females as oo though. It's as though your either fighting with vowels from the alphabet or you were two oo short on wheel of fortune, perhaps phonic books threw your descriptive way off. It's not as if, it's pronounced misogyny or of mediocre vocabulary, all due respect. It happens.

Brown Sugar is the classic version of Love & Hip-Hop. The story tell about two friends who grew up falling in love with Hip-Hop since they were kids with the music is their life. Hip-Hop been my life since I was born and through growing up I'm in love with the music I mean that's my life as I understand every song I ever listen there is still Hip-Hop around. My family, friends, allies, and I is in love with Hip-Hop for life and nothing can change none of it especially along with R&B and Gospel is also part of our lives.

Always loved this movie since I first saw it, Dre and Sid for real. Its cute how they use hiphop as a metaphor for their relationship, though I really feel like they could have developed that more rather than having it serve as a backdrop. Bomb cast. Definately recommend.
