About this movie

Academy Award®-winner Marion Cotillard stars alongside Joaquin Phoenix and Jeremy Renner in this gripping story of a fractured American dream. When Ewa (Marion Cotillard of INCEPTION, LA VIE EN ROSE) and her sister Magda (Angela Sarafyan of TV's AMERICAN HORROR STORY) arrive at Ellis Island, doctors discover that Magda is ill and must be quarantined. Ewa is released onto the mean streets of Manhattan alone, where she quickly falls prey to Bruno (Joaquin Phoenix of INHERENT VICE, WALK THE LINE), a charming but wicked man who takes her in and forces her into prostitution. Just as Ewa thinks all hope is lost, debonair magician Orlando (Jeremy Renner of AMERICAN HUSTLE, THE HURT LOCKER) arrives and sweeps her off her feet. Though the two men are cousins, Orlando may be Ewa's only chance to escape the nightmare of Bruno's brutality.

Started playing this on my Netflix, somehow lost the remote, was too lazy to look for it, ended up watching this entire film. Thank god I had my phone. But not so bad.

One of the most beautiful and important movies I've ever seen! On par with the greats, Fellini, Kurosawa, Kubrick, Antonioni, Bunuel, all the true greats of film! Not for the artistically or mentally challenged! I am forever grateful for having found this true piece of art among all the debris that passes for cinema. Bravo to all involved! Thank you.

Masterpiece of cinema in its purest and truest sense. Storytelling unlike anything we see today, reminiscent of the golden age and dialogue executed flawlessly.
