From legendary director Ridley Scott (Alien, Prometheus) comes a gripping tale of human strength and the will to survive. The entire time I was reading the book I knew that the movie was out and that the amazing Matt Damon was the star. As I was reading the book I kept recognizing lines that will be so funny coming out of Matt Damon's mouth. Yet the movie was just plain milk toast. The hilarious sarcasm of the main the character was dialed way back an the same thing for all of the Characters working NASA. Mr. Damon seemed constrained in his acting and the screen play was weak. In the book you felt like this thing could be happening now. The movie made it feel like some futuristic fantasy that could have worked if the screen play wasn't so boring. My proposed solution is to just give Matt Damon the book, ask him to read it and then act. It would have been awesome.

This was worse than I thought it would be. The screen writing is the worst of this era of Hollywood's overly cute style. If you think the West Wing and Newsroom were poorly written you'll agree with me. If you think Aaron Sorkin is a great screenwriter you'll enjoy this. The scientific and other questions of realism are so annoying... All of this combined to annoy the crap out of me. While my wife enjoyed it and laughed at all the "witty lines"

Great story but movie was pretty boring and not that well done... acting was terrible to where it just sounded like kids reading their lines instead of drawing you into the movie. At the very end, why couldn't the Aries just use thrusters to slow down instead of detonating a bomb? Got really old seeing the trajectories depicted by apples, coffee mugs, people walking... never a computer simulation... and then they'd justify with, "I did the math and it checks out!" lol
