I am ruined because I’ve read all 21 of Patrick O’Brian Aubrey - Maturin novels. This one pulls from 5 of them in no sensible way. But if you haven’t read the novels than I guess it’s ok

Except for some brief strong language, including the f-bomb once, brief off color humor, it's a good movie about how it was to sail in the British Navy back then. It captures the adventure, the perils, etc...pretty well. Love the music instrumentals. Lots of interesting sayings and expressions in their language.

Russell Crowe plays the captain of a man-of-war, on orders to take down an enemy ship to protect England's interest during the Napoleonic wars. Relationships are king in this movie, as the commander, well-liked, strives to keep order amongst his crew ranging from a white-haired seaman all the way down to a boy who looks no older than 5. There are no women in this movie, with the exception of an inference of a possible fling (captain) while stopping in Brazil to re-supply. You will fall in love with some of the characters. The music is classical, the accents English, Irish..from those areas. I would think teen and pre-teen boys would like this movie. It is historical, and violent at times during battle. It's a movie about honor and duty. I loved the relationships in this movie. The doctor is both friend and counselor to the captain. I thought it was such a good lesson in leadership, I wrote a blog about it. Excellent. [i watched on my iPhone and it is very dark at first due to weather & time of day in movie. Suggest you watch on larger screen. Lighting gets better as movie progresses].
