Long, moody fairy tale for grownups...with humor, and a few unique characters ...times when the samurai were or had lost their status, but still admired by some.

Great movie. Not as good as Throne of Blood or Rashomon but better than the American remake Magnificent Seven. Runs a little long, though.

The first Samurai film I ever saw, as well as, my own personal introduction to Director, Akira Kurosawa, and probably the fuel that sparked and fed my cinephelia. Enjoyed the (1st) Magnificent 7 (spagh western remake) & anime version of the OG b&w film. Def recommend to anyone that likes period pieces, japanese culture, spagh westerns, b&w film, foreign film, action-drama, or just a damn good movie. Think Japanese Swiss Family Robinson. . .but waaay more bloody fighting & plot content.
