About this movie

There was before Breathless, and there was after Breathless. Jean-Luc Godard burst onto the film scene in 1960 with this jazzy, free-form, and sexy homage to the American film genres that inspired him as a writer for Cahiers du cinéma. With its lack of polish, surplus of attitude, anything-goes crime narrative, and effervescent young stars Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg, Breathless helped launch the French New Wave and ensured that cinema would never be the same.

Absolutely breathtaking perfomances by the brilliant Jean Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg, directed by the Jean Luc Goddard amidst the jaw-dropping environments of Paris at day and night. This is one of my most favorite movies ever. Every detail is just as fresh and pertinent now in 2020 as when it was filmed. The cars are to die for, the Parisian streets and cafés dreamingly existential, the telephones as unique as it gets, the fashion a class of itself, and the flics, hot in pursuit of Belmondo, as shrewd as you'd imagine them to be. Paris lights up in every scene graced by Belmondo and Seberg, and if you could, you'd want to join them on the spot. Enjoy this movie for every second.
