About this movie

Middle class housewife Ila is trying once again to add some spice to her marriage, this time through her cooking. She desparately hopes that this new recipe will finally arouse same kind of reaction from her neglectful husband. Unknowing to her is that the special lunchbox she prepared has been mistakenly delivered to an office worker Saajan, a lonely man on the verge of retirement. Curious about the lack of reaction from her husband, Ila puts a little note in the following day's lunchbox, in the hopes of getting to the bottom of the mystery. This begins a series of lunchbox notes between Saajan and Ila, and the mere comfort of communicating with a stranger anonymously soon evolves into an unexpected friendship. Gradually, their notes become little confessions about their loneliness, memories, regrets, fears, and even small joys. They each discover a new sense of self and find an actor to hold on to in the big city of Mumbai that so often crushes hopes and dreams. But since they've never met, Ila and Saajan become lost in a virtual relationship that could jeopardize both their realitites.

Dabbawalas are the shining angels of Mumbai..were every hour a man misses a local and school boys jump over puddles..this story is not about a dabbawala but his one mistake..that makes a new fruendship..a housewife decides to get her husband's attention by giving him spicy curry,"sukhi bhaji","papad" and yeah ofcourse paratha dipped in butter lunch to his office through the dabbawala as a surprise...but he mistakely gives it to a lonely government employee..rather than protesting he enjoys the tiffin..again the housewife doesn't get any attention from her husband when she learns that the dabba aka lunchbox is misplaced..she makes another lunch with a letter in it..but follows is a trail of letters that blossoms a friendship..Irrfan khan is extremely nice in his 8 hours working routine life were we finds a bundle of file everywhere..the claustrophobic intense in the office is well made by the director..some scenes are too touchy were the character of irrfan peeps into the house of a family who is happily dining when a girl shuts their window and closes it with curtains...nimrat kaur is beautiful, innocent in her avatar..specially scenes were she talks to the invisible "upper floor recipe suggesting aunty" and the scene were she asks for irrfan (his character)..special mention for nawazuddin siddiqui who gives us goosebumps with his eerie laughter..his annoyance and yeah his excitement for marriage..lunchbox is worth a watch were we will sink to the beauty of our mumbai the director has created...

I wish Irrfan Khan would act a bit more composed than ruining it for everyone (and himself!). In an otherwise well made film, story and screenplay keep the viewer immersed. Great movie at this budget.

I liked these kinds of movies in which there is some potential to watch. This is different from other Bollywood Movies in which stupid songs and horrible stories are accompanied. I prefer this movie over any movie like wanted or phata poster nikla hero etc..
