About this movie

Six years after the violent death of her husband, Amelia (Essie Davis) is at a loss. She struggles to discipline her ‘out of control’ 6 year-old, Samuel (Noah Wiseman), a son she finds impossible to love. Samuel’s dreams are plagued by a monster he believes is coming to kill them both. When a disturbing storybook called ‘The Babadook’ turns up at their house, Samuel is convinced that the Babadook is the creature he’s been dreaming about. His hallucinations spiral out of control, he becomes more unpredictable and violent. Amelia, genuinely frightened by her son’s behaviour, is forced to medicate him. But when Amelia begins to see glimpses of a sinister presence all around her, it slowly dawns on her that the thing Samuel has been warning her about may be real.

I rented this movie based on the user reviews here, RT positive critic score and because generally the consensus was that it is a pretty good horror movie. I wanted to like the movie and I really TRIED to like it but I felt it was lacking something. I'm not sure if it's because the story has been done a million times before or the fact that the Babdook himself is very rarely seen (I'm a big fan of creature features). I wouldn't call this so much a horror movie but more of a psychological thriller.

Watched this film after wanting to for a while and at first I was enjoying it a lot but then it became a drag. The first time I saw the babadook he looked like marilyn manson in a top hat which fair play cause marilyn scared people. The film itself is smart and somewhat entertaining but I dont consider it a good film. The director did a good job I guess but I was just bored shouting at the TV. All I thought was the real monster was the child's mother. People who hate the kid have a right to.

When will filmmakers start to try to make quality horror films with a sinister story line with a shock value or even try to scare us. This is a poorly made film by a lazy script writer and one of the worst acted films I have seen in a long time. You can't get rid of a babadook we are told but when he is the this easy to catch why bother to try Don't waste your money on this rubbish
