This is a spectacular adaptation of War and Peace. Why? Andrew Davies masterful screenplay, a beautiful production, and a dream cast. This series contains so many brilliant performances it positively glitters with them. But the casting of James Norton and Paul Dano in particular as Bolkonsky and Bezukhov is spot on and they really do steal the show. Thank you BBC.

This series accomplishes in six hours what many cannot in twelve. Genuinely faithful, moving and beautiful.
