About this show

Provocative, authentic and unforgettable. Based on the groundbreaking Israeli series, Season 1 of this intense HBO drama puts a fresh spin on the coming-of-age narrative. Serving as a guide through the teenage landscape of substance-enhanced parties and anxiety-ridden daily life is 17-year-old Rue Bennett (multimedia star Zendaya), a drug addict fresh from rehab, who's struggling to stay clean and make sense of her future. Her life changes drastically when she meets Jules Vaughn (Hunter Schafer), a trans girl who recently moved to town following her parents' divorce, and, like Rue, is searching for where she belongs. The supporting cast includes Jacob Elordi, Alexa Demie, Algee Smith, Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow and Barbie Ferreira.

I watched both seasons. Lots of unnecessary sexual content, trying to maintain some sort of porn-like shock value. The Jules and Rue coupling is grating to watch. I fast forward through the endless music montages cinematizing the world of adolescence. (Eye roll.) ALSO, and this is important, where I come from, people who borrow 10k in drugs and don’t pay it back, get dead, but in Euphoria, nothing happens. It’s just a big empty plot hole. If you can tolerate all that, maybe you’ll like the show.

I personally love it. Of course, things are gonna be over played since it's a TV show but coming from someone who's been an addict for all of her teen years until last year, there's a lot of realistic things that happen to those growing up that way that most TV shows don't offer. I'm in love with the aesthetics/ fashion. I love most of the characters. I'd say it's the best thing I've watched in a long time.

A semi-realistic account of the collective teenage experience, Euphoria wows television critics with its beautiful cinematography, powerful and disturbing imagery, and outstanding cast performances. Written with many different themes slam-packed into one season, the show does not fail to address controversial themes with an aura of realism and fantasy. If you are on the fence, watch it. While the show may seem like an edgy take on the teen world, it means to blend the real trauma of drug and sexual encounters with fantasy or how youth today experience life. It is supposed to be uncomfortable, up close and personal, and euphoric.
