War of the Worlds (2005)

The first half is great. Very moody and scary but then it loses it's way. Overall it's a good movie (with the usual great effects), decent acting but a poor script and after a great start it flounders badly. It's worth a rent but on the small screen you will lose some of it's impact but I see no reason to buy it (if it's on GP ..not sure if it is) on dvd unless you are a big TC fan or a big fan of the story. The beginning is probably worth it but just don't expect too much after that.

Comes extremely close to being absolutely fantastic, but an underwhelming third half stop it short. For the most part though, this represents Spielberg at his most mature in years. I hope in later years it gets more appreciation for hitting all the right notes of what an alien invasion would feel like, despite some short comings.

Love what Spielberg does here... I would have liked to see more war with the aliens, more destruction...or hell even more aliens but he does a good job of piecing everything together. Acting is great, fx are believable. Nice.
