About this movie

Superstar George Clooney turns in a stellar performance in this thrilling sci-fi movie from Academy Award winners Steven Soderbergh and James Cameron. Aboard a lonely space station orbiting a mysterious planet, terrified crew members are experiencing a host of strange phenomena, including eerie visitors who seem all too human. And when psychologist Chris Kelvin (Clooney) arrives to investigate, he confronts a power beyond imagining that could hold the key to mankind's deepest dreams... or darkest nightmares.

I had read all of the review's, both Google User and professional critic alike and was raring to go for a cerebral treat. What I got instead was Solaris. Mind you, the performance's were spot on. There's just nothing unexpected and not predictable in the movie at all. You will see every so called plot twist coming in plenty of time to put a batch of cookie's in the oven ( it's my movie substitute for popcorn, each his own). I wanted, and was expecting, something to stimulate my neuron's, get the electrical connection's working and instead your brain feel's like the arm you accidentally slept on now awaiting blood flow...just substitute your mind for the arm and that's what Solaris will give you. footnote and possible spoiler to some degree: the ending seems to have religious overtones. There is a line "All is forgiven...etc". In order for a human to be forgiven for transgression's would that not suggest a deity or higher power? Whether this was the film maker's intent I do not know. Judge for yourself if you take the leap into this space version of Romeo and Juliet ( it really is just a story about love, loss and regret).

It was a bit slow at first but when things started happening, it brought me back in. Wow i was not expecting that! What a twist and the emotional feel to it. It's a must see film if your into this type of film. Can't say anything more because it will give it away. : D

Not the original. This remake of the classic Russian film, by Andrei Tarkovsky, is the most cerebral and beautiful movie I have ever seen. There is dialog; That's pretty much it. Everything else is a backdrop to an other worldly simple story, yet extremely complex upon reflection or second viewing. Cliff Martinez's score permeates you and will haunt the recesses of your brain. Soderburgh lures you in with static shots that beg you to think about the subtext. It's not what is said, but what is not.
