About this movie

A classic cult film that features one of the screen's most unlikely pairs. It will defy everything you've ever seen or known about screen lovers. Bud Cort is Harold, a young man bored with wealth but interested in death. And Ruth Gordon is Maude, a wonderful old rascal who can see nothing but good intentions in the world.

This film is unconventional, the plot unique, the characters quirky, but the subject really comes down to the commonplace: embrace life, own your existence, dance to the beat of your own drum, and love will find you. An unspoken but immensely important plot element is Maude's survival of the Holocaust, informing her lust for living and dying on her own terms. Harold shares that independent spirit. Their capers are hilariously off-beat. H&M appeals mostly to the literati.

I've never lived I've died a few times. Does wise words from Harold, Lets us know the value of life. Maude is simply a blessing when she talks about the daisies, And her beloved sun flowers. Her lesson on attaching our selves to things is filled also with wisdom. If we could truly not let the world judge us too much I do believe we could all be happier people.

I suck at movie reviews so I will just say that this movie is a comedy-romance-"coming of age" story all rolled into one. If you like movies such as When Harry Met Sally, Love Actually, or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind then you should at least rent this movie. As Maude would say, "Reach out. Take a chance."
