The Durrells

Louisa opens a new boarding house, but the arrival of a mysterious new guest places the villa under police scrutiny. Gerry remains as devoted as ever to the island's wildlife, and announces his plans to open his own zoo. Margo is struggling to find clients for her beauty treatments, and resorts to desperate measures to find people to practice her skills on.

An encounter with Daphne leaves Leslie pondering the possibility of fatherhood. He offers to look after her baby for a day, only to find himself having to organise a hunting expedition for one of the guests. With an unfortunate shortage of wildlife to hand, he persuades basil to pretend to be a wild boar. Gerry is opposed to killing animals for sport, so he and Galini hatch a plan to sabotage the hunt. Margo moves in with Theo, and Louisa is on the receiving end of some slightly confused romantic advances.

Louisa meets Spiros' wife for the first time, and invites her to join the family on a trip to visit Larry in Kalami. However, the journey ends badly when their picnic is eaten by hungry animals, and Larry turns out to have left the island for Paris. As tensions rise, they seek the help of a local bar owner, who has a special gift for Gerry. Meanwhile, Margo brings a touch of the continent to Prue and Geoffrey's Dorset home.

With the house guests getting more rowdy, Louisa worries about the villa's reputation, but Spiros's increasing presence at the villa continues to delight her. Margo finds a surprising way to bond with Maud, while Gerry realises he has feelings for Galini.

The residents of Corfu are excited at the prospect of an imminent official visit from the king of Greece, and the Durrells are keen to get themselves involved with the welcoming committee. Leslie takes over leadership of a scout troop, but finds the children under his care far more of a challenge than expected. However, his match-making scheme seems to be going far more smoothly, as his mother and Spiros grow closer. Love may also be in the air for Margo as she makes her return home to the island.

With storm clouds gathering, the islanders realise they can no longer ignore the rumblings of war, just as it looks as though the Durrells - particularly Louisa and Spiros - may have found their happy ending. Larry marks his return by throwing an audacious play for the locals, but there are surprises for every member of the family.
